About the Jubilee
Believe it or not, this year marks the Diamond Jubilee of the Polish Club Sikorski — 60 years of activity.
Sixty years of helping people, supporting new immigrants, and sharing Polish culture, traditions, and customs with the wider community.
Our founding members, already active in the early 1950s, sought to unite and support one another in a new land. After more than twenty years of planning, fundraising, and preparation, they registered the Polish Club General W. Sikorski Western Australia Inc. on 26 April 1966, in the year of the Millennium of Christianity in Poland. They chose as the Club’s patron the World War II hero, General Władysław Sikorski.
Since then, the clubhouse was built in 1972, the function room was added in 1995, and countless events have taken place here. Many distinguished guests have visited the Club, and a great number of cultural, educational, sporting, and community initiatives have been organised.
The last 15 years have brought tremendous changes and improvements.
The ageing, run-down buildings from the 1970s era were transformed into fresh, modern facilities equipped with contemporary equipment, fittings, and technology. These improvements enabled the volunteer Management Committee to significantly increase the pace of the Club’s activities. The number of major events grew from an average of about 10 per year to around 50 — a fivefold increase — while the number of visitors has increased tenfold.
And all of this has been achieved by volunteers — and volunteers alone.
This April we celebrate 60 years of the Club serving the community, and with it we celebrate three generations of volunteers who have made it possible.
Today we thank them for their hard work, dedication, initiative, enthusiasm, and the countless hours they have devoted to building and sustaining this Club and community.
